Mopani Copper Mines PLC boosts Zambia's workforce with 3,475 New Jobs.

Mopani Copper Mines PLC has created 3,475 new jobs, growing its total workforce to 14,240 employees as of April 2026. 

Speaking at the CAMINEX luncheon, Mopani Copper mine Chief Executive Officer, Charles Sakanya, highlighted the company's commitment to recognizing and rewarding its workforce, with salary increments of up to 15% over the past two years.

Mr. Sakanya, said the new jobs translate to meaningful livelihood opportunities for thousands of families and communities. Mopani's growth demonstrates renewed confidence and investment in Zambia's mining future.

He said Contractors and suppliers have also benefited from the clearance of long-standing arrears, with account reconciliations ongoing to ensure improved payment efficiency and stronger business relationships.

Mr. Sakanya, said mopani's investment in sports development continues to yield positive results, with Nkana and Mufulira Wanderers football clubs competing in Zambia's top-flight league.

The company is accelerating digital transformation and investing in critical infrastructure development to support Zambia's ambition of achieving 3 million tonnes of annual copper production.

He said through the Mopani Central Training Centre (MCTC), Mopani is developing critical skills for the mining industry, with graduates making significant contributions globally.

MCTC recently hosted the 2026 International Mines Rescue Competition, welcoming over 400 international participants.

Mopani's Mufulira Mine Rescue Team emerged second overall best team out of 22 elite teams from across the world.

The company's growth and investments are laying the foundation for a more resilient, productive, and opportunity-rich future for Zambia.
