GABORONE,May 20 ,The Government of the Republic of Botswana has dismissed as fake a viral letter claiming that President Duma Boko had declared a special day off for Arsenal supporters to celebrate the club’s alleged English Premier League triumph.
The fabricated letter, which circulated widely on social media on Wednesday morning, carried what appeared to be the official presidential letterhead and government stamp, giving it an appearance of authenticity.
According to the fake statement, President Boko had supposedly granted all Arsenal fans in Botswana permission to stay away from work “in recognition of the passion, loyalty and unwavering support of Arsenal fans across Botswana” following Arsenal’s “well-deserved Premier League victory.”
The letter quickly gained traction online, sparking widespread reactions, amusement, and confusion among football supporters and members of the public.
However, shortly after the document began trending, the Office of the President issued an official statement dismissing the letter as false and misleading
Government authorities warned the public against sharing unverified information and urged citizens to rely only on official government communication channels for authentic announcements.
